Great Choice For Aesthetically Restoring Your Smile
When a tooth is affected by minor to moderate tooth decay or damage, your dentist may recommend a composite dental filling. Also called a tooth-colored or white filling, a composite dental filling is made of a tooth-colored material called composite resin.
Composite fillings are a great choice for aesthetically restoring your smile because they blend in with the natural color of your tooth, giving you a restoration that is hardly noticeable. The composite resin also bonds to the existing tooth structure, resulting in a strong, durable restoration that helps to protect the tooth from fracturing and breaking. In addition, composite fillings are free from mercury, which may be harmful to your health.
Getting a White Filling
To restore a decayed tooth, Dr. Carlson will first remove the decay from the tooth; composite dental fillings require less removal of tooth structure than amalgam (silver) fillings, helping to keep your tooth strong. He will then clean the tooth and fill it with composite resin. After carefully shaping the resin to fit the tooth, we harden the filling with a special light.
