Dental Crowns in San Antonio, TX

A damaged tooth doesn't have to mean the end of your smile's beauty or strength. Dental crowns, also known as dental caps, provide a simple solution to restore and protect weakened teeth. 5 Star Dental Group is a patient-friendly San Antonio, TX practice that provides these dental restorations to add strength and resilience to teeth that closely match the color and shape of your natural teeth. These porcelain crowns serve both restorative and cosmetic purposes, returning function and appearance to a tooth that may be cracked, severely worn, or oddly shaped. Typically made of durable materials, like porcelain or ceramic, crowns are designed to withstand the normal pressures of chewing and talking. Crowns may also be attached to dental implants to replace missing teeth, helping to stabilize your bite and provide a realistic, comfortable fit. Schedule a consultation today to determine if a custom dental crown may restore your dental health and smile.

The dental crown procedure generally takes place over two visits. First, our team prepares the affected tooth, removing any damaged or decayed areas to ensure a stable foundation. After shaping the tooth, an impression is made. This mold is then sent to a lab where the porcelain dental crown is custom-crafted to fit seamlessly over your tooth. A temporary crown is placed to protect the area until your second visit. During this appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and your new custom crown is secured into place. This fitting is carefully adjusted to make sure it feels comfortable and natural when you bite down. Crowns are designed for durability, and with good care, the longevity of dental crowns can often last 10 – 15 years or even longer, allowing you to enjoy the benefits for years.

Once your restoration is securely in place, it will be adjusted so your bite feels even and comfortable. One of our team members will also walk you through the best way to clean your restoration and recommend effective oral hygiene practices that support long-term dental crown care. During your yearly dental evaluations at our San Antonio, TX practice, one of our professionals will assess your crown, review your oral health, and look for signs of wear that may indicate when a crown replacement or additional restoration maintenance is needed. When cared for properly, a high-quality porcelain crown should help safeguard your tooth’s function and appearance for several years, providing reliable protection and natural-looking cosmetic dentistry benefits. If your crown ever feels loose or completely falls off, it is important to contact us right away for emergency crown repair. Attempting to fix or glue the restoration back on yourself can cause further damage to the tooth and the restoration, making professional treatment essential for long-term tooth restoration durability.

My husband and I have been going here for about 25 years. They are always friendly, on time and professional, from Mary Jo at the front desk to every single staff member. Dr Tostado is wonderful, knowledgeable with extreme attention to detail. He communicates every aspect of your care. He makes us feel comfortable Dr. Acuna gave me my numbing medicine on my last visit and I didn’t feel any discomfort during its administration and afterwards. She was excellent and was so gentle. They are upfront with all aspects of your care, very ethical and we have never been disappointed. The office is beautiful too, very calm and very clean. I would recommend this practice all the time.

This has got to be the best Dentist Office I have ever been to. The staff is awesome and Dr Tostado is a Tooth Artist in my opinion. He did years of extra schooling beyond a traditional dentistry education to be able to qualify for cosmetic dentistry. He also has his own lab where he creates the art he puts in your mouth. I call it his "Tooth Studio". They have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and compassion. The only reason I don't tell many people is because I'm selfish. I don't want them to get too crowded. I live on the opposite side of town from this office and it's well worth the travel. If you are looking for a good dental experience, this is the place. P.S. Please don't tell too many people. You'll screw up my appointment scheduling.

Excellent quality, service, and staff. On time and treat the patient like a part of their family! I wouldn’t use any other dentist even though there is a myriad of providers much closer to my home. I trust their knowledge and have always had an excellent and enduring outcome regardless of the procedure performed.

  • Teeth with cracks or fractures
  • Worn or eroded enamel
  • Teeth that are misshapen or discolored
  • Moderate to large cavities
  • Large or failing fillings
  • Teeth that have undergone root canal therapy
  • Completing a dental bridge

Our experienced dental professionals will evaluate your needs and help you select the ideal crown type to support your long-term oral health and enhance your smile’s natural beauty.

How much do dental crowns cost?

The cost of a dental crown can vary depending on the material, the tooth being treated, and whether additional procedures are needed. During your visit to 5 Star Dental Group, Dr. Acuña will review your specific treatment needs and provide a detailed estimate, including any insurance coverage or payment options available.

Does getting a dental crown hurt?

The process is designed to be comfortable. Dr. Acuña uses local anesthesia to numb the area before preparing the tooth. Afterward, you may feel slight sensitivity, but this typically fades quickly. The team at 5 Star Dental Group prioritizes gentle, patient-focused care for a positive experience from start to finish.

When should I consider replacing my dental crown?

While dental crowns are long-lasting, they can eventually wear down or loosen. If you notice discomfort, changes in your bite, or visible damage, it’s best to schedule an appointment with Dr. Acuña. She’ll assess whether your crown needs repair or replacement to maintain proper function and appearance.
